What is Botox?

Botox is a wonderful tool to relax wrinkles and rejuvenate your face. BOTOX® was the world’s first approved botulinum toxin type A treatment and it is the first and only treatment FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines look better. The treatment requires minimum to no downtime.

How are wrinkles formed? A lot of factors can contribute to wrinkles, they can happen when there is a reduction of collagen and elastin fibers which can change the structure of the skin, skin damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment can weaken the skin, the unavoidable genetics and aging, and repeated muscle contractions. Muscle contractions like frowning, raising your eyebrows, squinting, and laughing, can gradually result in deep wrinkles and facial lines like crow’s feet, glabellar lines, forehead lines, chin tension, gummy smile, bunny lines, downward pull on the corners of the mouth, and Platysmal Bands on the neck.

How does Botox work? Botox works beneath the surface of the skin to temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity so the wrinkles on your face can relax and fade away.

5 Signs You Might Get Bad Botox Results

Sign 1: Your provider uses fake Botox

This one is very scary. Real Botox is sold and manufactured by Allergan Aesthetics. There are a lot of fake copies out there and you should avoid them at all cost! As NewBeauty says “you should only go to a board-certified plastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon, or dermatologist to get any kind of injectable done.”

At Rejuvent Medical Spa, we get our Botox directly from Allergan and we are listed as providers on their website. Before you visit your provider, check that they are listed and authorized specialists. Research Botox providers by zip code and state – or by zip code. Our city and state are Scottsdale, AZ and our zip code is 85260.

Sign 2: You go for too “good of a deal”

This one happens a lot. Groupon Botox deals are the worst! Specials that are too good to be true, usually are, and can damage your face!
Dr. Grossman on NewBeauty says “Maybe that practitioner isn’t using branded products—remember the chiropractor in Florida who sent people to the ICU injecting boot-leg product imported from China? Discounts are typically a sign that the injectors are using a blanket treatment protocol for everyone. There are so many people who inject these days who do not fully understand facial musculature and the science behind how Botox works. Botox should not be treated like a product you are purchasing, for which you are trying to get the best price, but rather like a procedure you are having done, for which you want the best result.”

Experience matters. We understand that everyone wants to save money, so at Rejuvent, we pass our savings from Allergan directly to our patients. We also offer referral pricing, and award LuxePoints on all Botox treatments.

Sign 3: Your injector uses a “template” approach

This one is very common with Botox injectors that took a weekend course. These providers are not medically trained or experts in facial anatomy and inject using a template that might not work for everyone. Beware of these injectors as the results often show a “frozen look”.

So how can you avoid it?
The best thing to do before your schedule your Botox appointment is to investigate before and after results on your provider’s website. Not on their social media accounts. Did you know that we see hundreds of images on Instagram and Facebook that are fake, or belong to other providers? To see real before and after photos, stick with the provider’s website and request to see photos in-office before your injection appointment. When you arrive at the office look at the staff, do they look frozen?

At Rejuvent, we have one of the largest before and after photo galleries in the state. We have been photographing our patients for analysis of results since 2004.

Sign 4: Your injector doesn’t take YOU into account

Wrinkle Relaxer injections are not a “one-size-fits-all” scenario. An experienced injector should be analyzing your face and facial movements before the injection, they should ask you questions about your wishes and take into account your specific needs and your facial structure and anatomy. If the Botox injector is following a cookie-cutter approach, your Botox results might look better on someone else’s face!

At Rejuvent, both Dr. Bomer and Dr. Bouzoukis are facial anatomy experts, they use Dr. Bomer’s technique and they have trained Linda Esposito to achieve the same results they achieve. Both doctors are MDs, and ENTs (Otolaryngologists) and are expert injectors, specializing in facial anatomy. They customize the treatment to your skin after analyzing clinical photographs taken before injections.

Sign 5: Your provider does not analyze your face correctly

“Not looking natural” is a vague term, but Scottsdale, AZ, facial plastic surgeon Kelly Bomer, MD, breaks it down in regards to neuromodulators: “My definition of ‘Bad Botox’ is a result that looks unnatural at rest or while moving. It is important to ask about retaining natural movement of brow elevation when actively raising the brow and normal cheek elevation when smiling. A common ‘Bad Botox’ result is the ‘Spock Brow,’ where the tail of the brow is unnaturally high and spiked and the medial brow is unnaturally low. And for the crow’s-feet area, if Botox is injected in a pattern that lowers cheek elevation, one can get a look of hollow eyes and chipmunk cheeks.” This often happens with inexperienced Botox injectors.

The above excerpt is from NewBeauty.com. Dr. Bomer is a contributor to NewBeauty magazine and she is part of their Brain Trust panel.

At Rejuvent, our Botox injectors take several clinical photographs to see how your skin moves so they can customize the injections to YOUR face!

What to avoid when getting Botox? Avoid inexperienced injectors, injectors with no proof of their results, cookie-cutter injection treatment, fake Botox, injectors that only use Botox instead of using Botox, Dysport and Xeomin, injectors without facial anatomy expertise, and ‘too good to be true’ specials.
