What to do before and after a microneedling treatment?

Microneedling model

Dr. Kelly Bomer loves Microneedling and often recommends it to her patients. Here is what Dr. Bomer recommends before and after Microneedling treatment:

Before Micronnedling: The skin should be calm and exfoliated, but not peeling prior to the treatment for the best outcome with Microneedling. Microneedling must not be performed on inflamed acne as this could induce an infection in the skin called cellulitis. It is okay to continue applying your skincare up to the day of the treatment without stopping as long as the skin remains calm. The skin should not be sunburned, or peeling before the treatment.

After Microneedling: It is best to stop retinol and retinoids like Retin-A for a few days until the skin feels not irritated and is mostly normal. Glycolic and other AHA’s can be used lightly the day after the treatment as long as they were well tolerated before the treatment. Extra moisturizers loaded with peptides and vitamin C products are great after Microneedling. Most importantly, do not get fresh sunshine on recently microneedled skin. The skin must fully heal after the treatment before the skin is exposed directly to the sun. The time for healing varies significantly depending on the depth of the treatment and the skin’s condition prior to the treatment.

Products we recommend after Microneedling: Alastin Skincare Skin Nectar – This serum helps speed up healing, helps strengthen the skin barrier, and most importantly, helps clear damaged collagen fibers and helps boost collagen and elastin production. Neocutis Bio Serum – This moisturizer is excellent post-procedure as it soothes the skin while replenishing moisture. PCA Skin Silkcoat Balm – This best-selling moisturizer is gentle, nourishing, and soothing. After your skin has healed from the Microneedling, use a Vitamin C product to continue boosting collagen production. Some of our best-selling Vitamin C Serums: Jan Marini C-ESTA Face Serum, Alastin C-Radical Defense Antioxidant Serum, Revision Skincare C+ Correcting Complex, and SkinMedica Lumivive System.

Continue applying your sunscreen daily. Some gentle sunscreens we recommend after skin treatments: Alastin SilkSHIELD Sunscreen SPF 30, Jan Marini Physical Protection SPF 45, and Intellishade TruPhysical SPF 45.

At Rejuvent, Microneedling is a very popular cosmetic procedure and our aestheticians use the Rejuvapen device. This skin treatment has gained significant traction in the world of skincare and beauty because of the lack of downtime and its impressive results.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a specialized device with fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, leading to increased collagen and elastin production, which ultimately results in improved skin texture, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, diminished acne scars, and enhanced overall skin tone and appearance.

Schedule your Microneedling with Rejuvapen at Rejuvent in Scottsdale today. During your first appointment, our aesthetician will go over your skincare goals and will give you her suggestions to maximize your results, including before and after tips specific to your skin.

Restore Your Skin with Growth Factors!

Growth factors bottle ad chemical formula

Growth factors are proteins that play a vital role in maintaining healthy skin cell function and are plentiful in young skin.  They increase collagen elastin production and improve wound-healing by repairing and regenerating healthy tissue. Their primary job is to signal fibroblast cells to produce collagen, which activates anti-aging pathways and builds a stronger dermis with a plump, smooth appearance. As we age, growth factors begin to dwindle and fibroblasts become sluggish, causing decreased production of collagen and the signs of aging become more apparent.

What do Growth Factors do?

They help your skin produce more collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin strengthen the dermis and provide better support for the epidermis!

How do growth factors work?

  • They advance skin tissue repair and recovery.
  • They promote the creation of collagen and fibers, which give the skin support and elasticity.

How do I choose which one to use?

Different formulas offer Growth Factor benefits for all skin types. In addition to Growth Factors, BioCream and BioGel by Neocutis are specifically formulated to aid in healing post-procedure skin. BioGel is a lightweight formula suited for oily skin types, and BioCream is deeply hydrating for dry skin. TNS Recovery Complex and TNS Essential Serum by SkinMedica contain Tissue Nutrient Solution with over 100 Growth Factors.  TNS Essential Serum is a dual-chambered pump containing one chamber with TNS Recovery Complex Serum, and the second with APS Corrective Complex – a blend of peptides, vitamin C, and other antioxidants.

A balanced skin care program including growth factors will help diminish fine lines and wrinkles and restore youthful tone and texture.
