Before Micronnedling: The skin should be calm and exfoliated, but not peeling prior to the treatment for the best outcome with Microneedling. Microneedling must not be performed on inflamed acne as this could induce an infection in the skin called cellulitis. It is okay to continue applying your skincare up to the day of the treatment without stopping as long as the skin remains calm. The skin should not be sunburned, or peeling before the treatment.
After Microneedling: It is best to stop retinol and retinoids like Retin-A for a few days until the skin feels not irritated and is mostly normal. Glycolic and other AHA’s can be used lightly the day after the treatment as long as they were well tolerated before the treatment. Extra moisturizers loaded with peptides and vitamin C products are great after Microneedling. Most importantly, do not get fresh sunshine on recently microneedled skin. The skin must fully heal after the treatment before the skin is exposed directly to the sun. The time for healing varies significantly depending on the depth of the treatment and the skin’s condition prior to the treatment.
