Brow Lift

Brow Lift Surgery
Aging of the face is inevitable. As the years go by, the skin on the face and neck loses elasticity. Signs of aging frequently develop first around the eyes and eyebrow region. The eyebrow gradually drops. This leads to sagging and hooding of upper eyelid skin. Sometimes excess upper eyelid skin is due mainly to the descent of the eyebrow. A low eyebrow can give a tired or angry appearance. Wrinkles in the forehead also develop with aging. Based on genetics and lifestyle, eyebrow descent may start as early as the thirties. A forehead - brow lift restores a more youthful, refreshed and alert appearance to the eyes and a smoother, softened forehead. Some patients require only several millimeters of elevation of the brow to rejuvenate the upper face. It is important to realize that there is no "ideal" brow position. Examine the pictures in any fashion magazine - this will demonstrate that concept. The best brow position and shape is the one that fits your face and restores your youthful beauty. If you have pictures of yourself at a younger age, bring them to your consultation. This helps Dr. Bomer to further customize her rejuvenation plans for you.

Understanding The Brow Lift Surgery
The newest approach to raising the brow is endoscopic surgery. Dr. Bomer makes several small one-half-inch incisions in the scalp behind the hairline. No hair is cut or shaved. A small endoscope is inserted, allowing for the surgery to be performed with minimal bruising and a reduced chance of scalp numbness or hair loss as compared with the traditional coronal lift. Dr. Bomer also utilizes state of the art fibrin tissue glue to further reduce swelling and bruising, and speed healing. If the patient's hairline is high, a modified direct - endoscopic browlift elevates the brow without raising the hairline. An older, little used technique is the coronal lift. This involves making an incision across the entire scalp- from one ear to the other. Due to the extensive incision, and increased risk of hair loss and scalp numbness, this technique is no longer performed by most surgeons.

What To Expect After The Surgery
You will experience a certain amount of swelling and bruising in the 10-day period following surgery. In some patients, this condition may include the cheek and eye area as well as the forehead. You will be advised to keep your head slightly elevated in order to reduce swelling. Cold compresses may further reduce swelling. Your dressing will be removed the following day, and an elastic headband will be supplied to use for the following 5 to 7 days. As the incisions heal, you may experience some numbness as well as itching, both of which will diminish with time. The sutures are usually removed within 10 to 14 days following surgery. For most patients, the recovery time will not exceed two weeks, but patients may still be advised to avoid strenuous activities for longer periods. Bruising can be camouflaged with standard make-up techniques in the post-operative period. Often a brow lift is combined with Blepharoplasty (an eyelid tuck) or face lift to provide a harmonious rejuvenation.
